Alexandra Kyzyk, 85, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 in Chatham, NJ. Alexandra Kyzyk was born to Maria and Ivan Danylovych on August 5, 1928 in Turka, Ukraine and was the younger of two daughters. She graduated from the Drohobych Academy in Drohobych, Ukraine and later attended dental school in Regensburg, Germany. She married John Kyzyk in 1948 and shortly thereafter they emigrated from Ukraine to the United States. They eventually settled in New Haven, CT where they raised their five children. Alexandra was an active member of the Ukrainian American community for over 50 years. She held various positions in a variety of community organizations: The Ukrainian National Women's League of America, St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church Choir and Women's Church Group, and Parent Liason Association for PLAST (Ukrainian Scouts of America). In 2001 she and her husband moved to Basking Ridge, New Jersey to be closer to their children. They joined the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Whippany, NJ. She is survived by her five children and seven grandchildren: Marta Popovich, and her husband Alexander and their children Andrea and Christina of Morristown, NJ, Roman Kyzyk and his wife Mira and their children Mark and Deanna of New York City, Orest Kyzyk of Brooklyn, NY, Andrew Kyzyk and his wife Roxanne and their son Danilo of Short Hills, NJ, and Ksenia Salewycz and her husband Alexander and their children Anna and Sophia of Clifton, NJ. She also leaves behind her older sister Ivanna Hanushevska of North Providence Rhode Island.
