Alfred J Stanaway, 77 of Livingston entered into eternal rest on April 9, 2020.  Born September 19, 1942 in Jersey City at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital to the late Alfred Stanaway, Sr. and Mary (Carugan) Salmini, he lived in Bayonne before moving to Livingston in 1972.   A proud veteran of the United States National Guard, Al started his professional career in the early 1960's working directly with Lee Iacocca setting up Ford Motor Company’s first leasing program.  In 1969 he ran for Jersey City Councilman on the Maresca Ticket. Later he went on to work for 3M Microfilm becoming one of their top salesman.  It was during this time, he became acquainted with David "Sonny" Werblin, owner of NY Jets and Chairman of MSG. Together they created M.I.S. (Microfilm Identification System).  Al opened up a health food store in Millburn, NJ called Honey Bees and then in 1979, embarked on his biggest business passion owning and operating Country Sudser Car Wash.  Throughout the years Al owned many car washes and created many relationships that lasted for the remainder of his life.  He currently owns Major Car Wash and had many employees who he considered part of his family.   His generosity and humanitarian spirit have always prevailed.  Al's favorite charity was Hugs for Brady, which raises money for pediatric cancer and he was previously honored as Man of the Year for the Rainbow Foundation of New Monmouth, NJ. In his spare time he loved to spend time and travel with his family.  More important than all, Al loved people and treated everyone with dignity and respect.   He is the loving husband of 55 years to Carole (nee: Regan), cherished father of Brian and his wife Nicole,  Joan, and  Jason and  his wife Andrea  and the proud grandfather of Michael, Sean, Jacqueline, Christopher, Anthony, Joseph and Vivian. He is pre-deceased by his sister Anne Marie Lauten, Thomas Stanaway and Mary Stanaway. Survived by William Stanaway and Loretta Stanaway,  Brother in law Michael Regan and his wife Diane and sister in law Janet and husband Andrew Wojturski  along with many nieces and nephews.   Due to CDC restrictions of public gathers Funeral Services were held in private.    A Memorial Mass and Celebration of his life will take place at a later date.   A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Al loved to read the quote of the day, his favorite quote we leave to you,  "The highest tribute to the dead is not grief but gratitude" - Thorton Wilder
