Alice Velez

On the evening of March 22nd, Alice Velez, 64, of Newark passed away. Alice was born to Mario and Milagros Santos in New York City on January 8th, 1959. Of seven children she was the only daughter. In her youth Alice was a smart child, a gifted pianist, and a school basketball player.

In the late 1970s she met the love of her life, Julio Velez, with whom she had spent every day with since. They went on to marry in 1983 and had three children together. Alice had a large heart and was the matriarch and center of the family. Alice kept everyone together and remembered everyone’s birthdays and important dates. She loved and defended her family fiercely. She was also an amazing cook and often hosted the family for holiday dinners.

Alice is preceded in death by her mother, father and brothers William, Mario, and Robert. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, her three children Marisol, Victoria, and Luis and her three brothers, Peter, Jim, and Alex.

The viewing for Alice will be on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Union Funeral Home from 3 pm to 6 pm.

The Funeral Mass will take place the following morning, Monday, April 3, 2023 at Saint Rose of Lima Church in Newark at 10:00 a.m. followed by the burial at Hollywood Memorial Park and Cemetery.  (Please meet directly at Church Monday morning)
