Andrij Rogalskyj one of the few remaining soldiers of the Battle of Brody passed away on April 14, 2013 at the age of 88. He was born on March 8, 1925 in the village of Bohatkevce, Ukraine. When WW II broke out, at the age of 18, he joined and fought with the 1st Division Ukrainian National Army against his country's Communist oppressors. As a prisoner of war he spent time in Italy and England and eventually came to the US and became a citizen. He was emplyed by Western Electric in Kearny until he retired after 35 years of service. In the early years he was active with CYM and later with the Ukrainian Veterans Organization. Throughout the years he has been a parishioner of St Johns Ukrainian Catholic Church in Newark. He loved history and enjoyed telling stories about growing up on a farm in his homeland and what he saw and experienced during the war. He was predeceased by his brothers, Eugene, Lubomyr and sister Maria. He will be greatly missed by his family. He was a reliable, loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lydia, his son, Peter, daughter in la, Jill and his 3 much loved grandchildren, Nathaniel, Sophia and George. Andrij has fought his last battle and won.
