Anna D. Sosnicky

Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother Anna Sosnicky, (nee Deviatka) of Union, NJ passed away after a brave battle with COVID 19 pneumonia on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. The funeral is Thursday, March18 with a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit Church, 971 Morris Ave in Union at 10:30AM. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. Anna was born in Newark on January 19, 1924, living in the Vailsburg Section until 1981 when she moved to Union. She had served on Newark Mayor Carlin's Commission for Group Relations. She was employed by the Newark Board of Education as secretary, retiring in 1986. In Union, she served as Treasurer of the Putnam Manor Civic Association for 16 years. She also served as secretary of Branch 234 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association for over 40 years. She was a member of the Rosary Society of Holy Spirit Church as well as the Golden Age Club of Union. Anna was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Irene Deviatka, her beloved husband of 60 years, Samuel in 2004 and her sister, Mary Varecka in 2000. She is survived by son, Andrew and his wife, Joan, daughters Joan Fortune, Kathryn Rusignola and her husband, Robert and Susan. Also her grandchildren James, Michael Rusignola and his wife, Deborah, Diane and Laura Rusignola and Allison Kant and her husband, Pooneet. Great grandchildren, Grady and Quinn Rusignola. Anna loved going to movies, theater and watching Jeopardy. In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate donations in Anna's memory to Holy Spirit Church, 971 Suburban Road, Union, NJ 07083.
