Bernard W Krawczuk

August 28, 1935 — May 20, 2023

It is with deep sorrow that the Krawczuk family shares the news that my dearest husband,

father of our son Myron, godfather to numerous children and US Army Veteran

BERNARD W. KRAWCZUK

was called to eternal rest on Friday May 20, 2023, in the 88th year of his life.

Bernard W. Krawczuk was born on August 28, 1935, in Drahovo, Zakarpatska Oblast, Ukraine. He was the third child of Wolodymyr and Anna (nee Popovycz) Krawczuk who were blessed with six children. With World War II upon them, the family had to escape their homeland and found refuge in Austria. In 1948 their father’s sister sponsored them, and they arrived in the United States of America on April 17, 1948, and settled in New Jersey,

where their seventh child was born.

The family adapted to their new life in the USA; the younger children attended elementary schools, and Bernard enrolled in a vocational high school. He later joined the New Jersey National Guard as a reservist. On September 1, 1955, he was called from reserve status to active duty. His term of service expired on August 31, 1957, and he returned to the New Jersey Army Reserves, completing his military obligation with an honorable discharge on September 16, 1961.

That same year Bernard met his future wife Anna Osinska, who was also a US Army veteran. They were married on June 9, 1962, at the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church. They welcomed their son Myron Bohdan Krawczuk, and later the family moved to Holmdel, N.J.

Both Bernard and Anna were members of the Ukrainian American Veterans and dedicated much time to their UAV Post 30. Bernard became second Post Commander. Eventually they were both elected to the UAV National Board, with Bernard accepting the role of UAV National PR and editor of the organization’s newsletter, the UAV Tribune, which he published for 16 years. From 2004 Bernard and Anna were also members of the UAV National Monument Committee and participated in the UAV National Monument Dedication Ceremony, which was held on October 3, 2015, at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in South Bound Brook, New Jersey.

Left in grief at Bernard’s passing from this life are his wife Anna Osinska Krawczuk; his son Myron Bohdan Krawczuk; Bernard’s sisters Sonja Krawczuk Berardi and Irene Krawczuk; and his brothers Michael (pre-deceased), Stanley, Raymond, and Nicholas Krawczuk with their families.

Funeral services were held at Union Funeral Home, in Union, New Jersey 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 on Friday May 26, 2023, and on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 9:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church at Bloy Street and Liberty Avenue, Hillside, New Jersey. Internment followed at St. Andrew Cemetery in South Bound Brook, New Jersey.
