Betty Jean Parham

January 21, 1955 — November 19, 2024

It is with profound sadness that the family of Betty Jean Parham announce her passing on November 19, 2024.

Betty Parham was born in Petersburg, Virginia in 1955 to Olie and Lena Parham. She graduated Weequahic High School and went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree from Montclair State University. Subsequently, she worked as a family service case worker for the Division of Youth and Family Services where she retired from.

Betty had the biggest heart and the most contagious laugh. She was a private and quiet person but also very witty and fun. She was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate. She loved rides in her “adventure van” where she would take her loved ones to various outings. She enjoyed vacations, holiday shopping, elephant collectables, LifeTime movies, feeding her stray cats, gardening and music.

Betty was a strong fighter, but she is now sailing on a journey that we cannot see; we know that she is now free from pain. Betty will be desperately missed by all those that she’s left behind. Our hearts are so broken by this tragic and unexpected loss. You never said I’m leaving, you never said goodbye. You were gone before we knew it, and only God knew why.

Betty was preceded in death by her grandmother Laura Brown, grandfather Copeland Crawley. Mother, Lena Parham and father Olie Parham. Step-dad, Donald Mayo(PopPop). Uncle, John Crawley. Brother, Anthony Mayo and great-nephew Isaiah Walker.

Betty is survived by sister, Sandra Walker. Sister in Law, Shelly Mayo. Niece’s April Lane (Orlandos Lane), Krystle Hatcher(Hassan Hatcher). Great nieces and nephews: Iyanna Walker, Elijah Walker, Briana Hatcher, Hassan Hatcher Jr., Arianna Hatcher, Josiah Lane,Tobias Walker and Akylah Hatcher and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. at the Levandoski - Grillo Funeral Home, 44 Bay Ave., Bloomfield, N.J.  Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Levandoski - Grillo Funeral Home for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time
