Bohdan O Shebunchak

Bohdan O Shebunchak M.D. age 90 of Pompton Plains NJ died at home on Saturday February 4, 2012. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday February 8, 2012 at 8:30am from the Union Funeral Home Lytwyn & Lytwyn 1600 Stuyvesant Ave Union, followed by a service at St John's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Newark, and Burial at St Andrew's Ukrainian Cemetery South Bound Brook. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-8pm with a Parastas service at 7:30pm. Born in Solotwyna, Ukraine. Bohdan, began his medical education in Ukraine and then finished at Friedrich Alexander in Germany in 1948. He came to the United States in 1951 and served his internship in Brooklyn, NY. Dr Bohdan became a house doctor at Clara Maass Hospital in Belleville NJ, rising to the rank of Chief house doctor. He opened is own office in 1957 and functioned as a general practitioner through 2009. Dr Bohdan served in the US Army Medical Corps during the Korean War.He resided most his life in Bloomfield but spent some years in Montclair and Roseland until moving to Pompton Plains 4 years ago. Beloved husband of the late Dr Sophia Shebunchak. He is survived by his loving children Roman and his wife Marie and Danusia Rampolla and her husband Richard, his devoted grandchildren Lydia and Daniel and his wife Jen, Melanie and Tamara Rychok , his great grand daughter Michaela Battista, his step grandchildren Paul and his wife Anna and Jason and his wife Michele McErlean and his step great grand children Kyle, Caitlin and Sarah McErlean. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Ukrainian Medical Association or the American Heart Association.
