Brent Marten Songui, age 64, loving father of Kambon and Sophia, and loyal husband to Helen, passed away in the late hours on December 2nd after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma cancer. Brent was born in 1957 in Arima and grew up surrounded by a large family consisting of 12 siblings and was the baby of the Songui family. Being from a large family he had a plethora of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Brent was influenced by his family to be a hardworking, loyal, and a committed man. He dedicated 30 years as a skilled journeyman for Local 580 Ironworkers Union. He was extremely positive and always saw the best in everyone. Even during his battle he remained optimistic and focused on living his life to the fullest. Most of all he was extremely humble and never saw himself better than anyone. He was generous and willing to give his last so others could have. He enjoyed playing football, liming with his friends and talking shit! He was a Trini to de bone. He was highly skilled and quick witted in his responses and loved every minute of it. He was an exceptional provider for his family and his grandson Iroh was the apple of his eye. He was immensely proud of his children and vastly concerned that they would be well taken care of in his absence. He was remarkably grateful and graciously said thank you to all those caring for him. He was a very proud man and it wasn’t easy for him to accept help from others. His soldier, Patch, was with him at all times; at his beck and call! In his final moments he was surrounded by his loved ones. He will be greatly missed by all, especially his close relatives. There will be a service for those who would like to say their last goodbye to Brent on December 10th, at 6:30 pm, Levandoski-Grillo Funeral, 44 Bay Avenue, Bloomfield. Please wear red, green or gold colors as a symbolism towards Brent’s Rastafarian belief.
