Cara Maria Corbo, 61, died peacefully at home in Short Hills on Friday, September 16. Relatives, friends and colleagues are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday, September 20 at 11 AM directly at St John's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 719 Sandford Ave, Newark. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be from 4-8PM on Monday at the Union Funeral Home-Lytwyn & Lytwyn, 1600 Stuyvesant Ave. Union. Born in Newark, Cara graduated from Montclair High School, Franklin & Marshall College and St John's School of Law in 1979. She was admitted to practice law in NJ and NY. She was a partner in the law firm, Miller, Meyerson and Corbo of Jersey City and Millburn. Cara had an accomplished legal career. A member of the Hudson County, Essex County and NJ State Bar Associations, she was recognized as a Certified Matrimonial Trial Attorney. She was honored by her peers to be selected as a "NJ Super Lawyer" from 2005 to the present. Cara was a member and past Chair (1995-2000) of the Family Law Division of the Hudson County Bar Association, "Attorney of the Year" in 2005 of the Hudson County Bar Association and a member of the Hudson County Early Settlement Panel Family Law Committee.On the State level, she was a member of the Family Law & Dispute Resolution Sections. Cara appeared on Court TV as the legal commentator for the Governor James McGreevey divorce trial. Court TV had never covered a divorce, so their search for someone to comment kept coming back to Cara. Cara was also a Certified Mediator, former President of the Girl Scouts of Hudson County and a legal advisor to the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms of Parsippany. She is survived by her husband and life partner, Ted Lytwyn, loving brothers, Larry and wife Debra, Thomas and wife, Eva and Scott Corbo; her most beloved nephews, Joseph and wife, Lindsay and Thomas G. Corbo;cousins and other extended family. Cara and her family would like to give a special thank you to Gerald Miller, Leonard Meyerson and Michael Hochman who took her in as a young attorney, mentored her and allowed her to flourish. She considered them family. In her medical journey, Cara encountered some incredibly caring doctors, nurses, aides and hospital workers. We are so thankful for the compassionate care she received, particularly from Dr Julian Decter, Dr David Siegel, Dr Scott Rowley and the oncology staffs at St Barnabas Medical Center and Hackensack University Medical Center.
