David Velez

David Velez, affectionately known as “Dawud," passed away on June 20, 2024 at RWJ Hospital, Rahway. He was born to Delia & Joaquin Velez on January 6, 1956 in Newark, NJ.

He is predeceased by his mother Delia Velez and two sisters Adelaida Ghirawoo and Nancy Velez-Johnson. He leaves behind his siblings; Judy Rios, Alice Velez, Rosemarie Velez, Diana Weislo, Aida Elliot, Delia Ramos, Edwin Velez, Norma Velez, and Angel Velez.

David worked as a handy man and roofer. He will be remembered as a man of many hobbies which included fishing, collecting cars, sports cards and playing pool, he called himself “The King of Pool.” He also enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with his friends and family. His humor and creativity were aspects of his personality. His hearty laugh and generous spirit extended beyond his family.

David’s presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to be a beacon of warmth and joy for all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In honor of his final wishes David’s cremated remains will be shared by his loved ones and spread across the ocean in Atlantic City.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Union Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Cremation will be private.
