Dr. Ihor V. Zielyk, Professor Emeritus, Seton Hall University, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 23, 2015. Dr. Zielyk was born in Nadvirna, Ukraine to Ivan & Stepanida Zielyk (Ne Turiansky) on March 14, 1933. He spent his early years moving around Europe to avoid Stalin's approaching forces and made his way to America in 1951. He studied at Seton Hall University, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and received his masters and Phd in philosophy from Columbia University. Dr. Zielyk was an avid athlete, playing soccer and tennis for many years and he also painted, sculpted and enjoyed photography, even winning several photography awards. He spoke several languages and kept himself occupied with translation work after retiring from Seton Hall University in 1997. He was a member of St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Newark NJ. He is survived by his wife, Daria Minchak Zielyk, sons Andrey and Peter, daughters in law Maria Macaluso Zielyk and Christine Gerolamo Zielyk and grandsons Matthew, Andrew, Christopher and Daniel.
