Edgardo M. DeOcampo, 81 of Jersey City, entered into eternal rest on July 31, 2020. Born in Pagbilao, Quezon, Philippines, he was the only child of Carmen Merto and Dr. Emilio DeOcampo. Edgardo attended University of Santo Tomas for pre-med and completed his bachelor’s degree in Business at Luzonian University. Following graduation, he worked for the Bureau of Internal Revenue as an Inspector. Edgardo married his lifelong love, Erlinda, in 1961 and they started their family with the birth of their older daughter in 1965. Two years later, the family grew with the birth of their identical twin sons. With the declaration of martial law in 1972, Edgardo and his wife made the decision to emigrate to the United States, eventually settling in Jersey City, New Jersey. Their immediate family was complete with the birth in the United States of their younger daughter. Edgardo worked as an Accounting Clerk at Bank of New York and a Machine Operator at Muellers, finally retiring in 2009 from Control Point Solutions in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Edgardo and his wife enjoyed a rich social life, spending much time with their large extended family and friend groups. He had served as the President of the Pagbilao Association and as an officer of the Quezon Province Association, helping to lead both groups in their social and philanthropic endeavors. Edgardo loved to travel. Over the years, he and his wife joined their “cruisers” friend group on voyages to numerous global destinations in Europe, Asia, India, Africa, South America, and Australia. When they were not traveling, they would continue their adventures with the cruisers by getting together to recount past trips and to plan future ones. Edgardo especially enjoyed spending time with his love, going on dates, holding hands like boyfriend and girlfriend, going to the movies, eating out in fine restaurants and braving innumerable shopping trips with her. He is the beloved husband of Erlinda (nee: Bermudez), cherished father of Maria Elisa Brioso (Benjamin), Enrico DeOcampo (Rebecca Joy), Emilio DeOcampo (Jen), Elaine Referente (Michael) and the proud and loving Lolo of Alyssa Brioso, Camrynn Referente, Noa DeOcampo, Jaden Referente, Jordan DeOcampo, Christine Brioso, Jan DeOcampo, Isabella DeOcampo & Jet Referente. He is also survived by his dear in-laws, Augusto Bermudez (Tina), Annie Bermudez, Viterbo Bermudez (Sally), Fidel Bermudez (Gigie) and Edward Bermudez (Jocelyn).
