Edward W. Ozak

July 4, 1951 — April 22, 2017

Ed Ozak passed from this world into life eternal with his Lord on April 22, 2017 at 1:20 pm. It is difficult to say what Ed did. It would be easier to say what he didn't do. Notable things in his life were Musician, Iron Worker, Drag Racer, Custom Car builder and designer, and running a successful Pizzeria in Irvington, NJ. Ed's careers were diversified and reminiscent of the Village People. A celebration of Eddie's life will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Union Funeral Home, 1600 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union, NJ 07083 at 11 am. Visitation will be Thursday, April 27 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and Friday from 10 to 11 am. Edward Walter Ozak was born around July 4, 1951. We say around because he was found and taken in by Catholic Charities around July 4. It looked like life was off to a difficult start. Fortunately, the Lord God put seeds of strength and greatness into our brother and made him the fighter he needed to be to survive. Shortly thereafter, he was adopted by Edward Martin and Emelia Ozak to be their child and live with them in their home on Porter Road in Union. Ed was always feisty and everyone in town knew him. But God's hand was always upon him leading Ed in the way he should go. He always watched out for others. He attended St. Paul the Apostle Grade School and Union High School. Later, he attended Union County College and Manhattan School of Music. He married his childhood friend Joan Morawczynski on September 27, 1979 and the couple moved to a small house in Irvington where they remained until the passing of Joan's Dad when they moved into Joan's childhood home on Berkeley Street to care for Joan's Aunt Mary. During these years, Ed and Joan toured most of North America on the Drag Racing circuit. Ed's team was nationally sponsored and won many races. They got to tour and camp through much beautiful country. They even hung out with "Big Daddy" Don Garlits, the father of drag racing who signed Joan's scooter at one race. After the touring ended, Ed settled down in a local business called Casa Mia Pizza on Springfield Avenue in Irvington, NJ. Ed always strived to be the best at whatever he did. He set high standards for food service, for life, for himself and those around him. He was a big man with a big heart. Loyalty was one of his best characteristics. He also modeled character and integrity. Once he became your friend, he stayed by your side forever. On April 15, 1992, Joan was injured in an auto accident and Ed became her primary care giver faithfully meeting her needs to the very end. Ed was and still is a Promise Keeper!
