Eleanor Wisner Gural, 87, lifelong resident of Summit and Springfield, summer resident of Marion and Rochester, MA passed away on March 8. An independent and passionate advocate for animals and nature, she was a source of inspiration for many. She and her late husband, The Honorable William Gural, were proprietors of Laurel Woods Nursery, later named Springfield's Hidden Garden where they cultivated, grew, and displayed an enormous number of azaleas and rhododendron. Ellie was a Master Gardner and volunteered regularly at the Rutgers Extension Center's hotline. She served the community in many other ways, especially fostering homeless dogs and puppies before adoption into their forever homes and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was active at St. Stephen's and at Calvary Episcopal Churches. She loved to travel, meet new people, try new foods and attend cultural events. Ellie graduated from Drew University and Bank Street Teacher's College. She taught nursery school in Geneva, Switzerland and second grade at Far Brook School in Short Hills before raising her family. She is already missed by her daughter, Rachel Gural Biello and her husband John; her only granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Biello; and her son Michael Wisner Gural and his wife Kathy; as well as her extended family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 20, 2015 at 11:00 at Calvary Episcopal Church, Summit, NJ. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Puppylovenj.com
