Emilia Felisa Ponte

Emilia Ponte (Matilla) entered God’s presence on April 6, 2022 after a courageous battle against ovarian cancer. Emilia was born in 1944 in Madrid, Spain to Romualdo and Juana Matilla and spent her first 30 years in Spain studying and eventually working in a bakery. After meeting and marrying her husband, Aramis Ponte, they emigrated to the United States with their infant daughter, Ruth Cruz (Ponte). Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, spending years as an active member of local churches, maintaining a spirit of generosity and kindness to all. She worked in embroidery for over 20 years, before transitioning to a career in child care. She always nurtured her creativity in the arts through sewing, photography, and took up painting late in life. She remained active in church until her last year on this earth, relying on her faith in God and being grateful for all her blessings no matter the situation. The greatest joy in her life was being with grandchildren and watching them grow. Her husband Aramis preceded her in death in 2007 and by her brothers, Juan Antonio, Jose Luis, and Juan Ignacio. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth and husband Steven Cruz of Highland Lakes, NJ, her son, Aramis Ponte and wife, Crystal Proenza-Ponte, of Nutley, NJ, and her grandchildren, Catarina, Isabella, Sofia, and Aramis Knight, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Levandoski-Grillo Funeral Home, 44 Bay Ave., Bloomfield, NJ. (Additional parking located on Broughton Avenue). Cremation will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, the family of Emilia Ponte respectfully requests contributions in her honor to the inpatient Hospice and Palliative Care fund c/o the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center, 475 South Street, 1st floor, Morristown, NJ 07960. Donations may be made in kind at f4mmc.org, choosing the option to donate to the hospice and palliative care unit.
