Errol G O'Gilvie

October 13, 1947 — January 31, 2016

OBITUARY Errol George O'Gilvie, son of the late Christoper (Dada) O'Gilvie and Kathleen (Mama Girlie) Saunders O'Gilvie, was called home on the morning of Sunday, January 31, 2016. Errol was born October 13th, 1947 in Cedar Valley, St. Thomas Jamaica. Errol lived in Cedar Valley with his parents, two younger sisters, Ilean (Joan) and Valeria, and younger brother, Keith. Errol and his siblings loved playing games like cowboys and Indians, skip, hop scotch, and hide and seek. He attended Cedar Valley Primary School with his siblings. He then attended private school in Sea Fort with his sister Ilean where he was given the nick name "coffee foot" because he was very slim. He graduated from Wentworth High School in 1965 and after graduation, Errol worked in Kingston for a few years. Errol migrated to the United States in the late 1960s, where he lived with the Parris family while working various jobs in the medical field. Errol married in 1971 and in 1972 was blessed with the birth of his daughter, Constance; at which time he decided to pursue a career change in criminal justice. By 1975, Errol began taking classes at Brauch College while living with his cherished Aunt Terri, the late Lucretia Bennett. Errol soon after began working for the New York District Attorney's office in Manhattan where he had successful 36 year tenure. Errol worked in the Information Technology department, as a Computer Specialist when he retired in 2011 to spend his days with family. Errol met his current wife, Deborah (Debbie) O'Gilvie in New Jersey in 1982. Errol and Debbie married and remained in the Bronx where their son, Errol Jr, was born in 1985. During their twenty-six years of marriage Debbie has been a loving and caring wife, who catered to his every need. Errol especially loved her cooking, she cooked for him every day and Debbie's delicious cooking was highly requested at family events. Errol was a proud parent to both his children. He was also the unofficial head of the family. Errol was the eminent figure, always present to assist family and friends when needed. Errol enjoyed his life and traveling the world; he especially loved going to the beach and he loved driving and on road trips to South Carolina, Florida, Canada and the Jersey Shore, often making rest stops to eat or chat up other drivers. His favorite destination was returning home to Jamaica, West Indies. Errol was a devoted Grandfather and always made time to babysit and attend to his three grandchildren, Domonique, Alexsandra (Ally), and Danielle's special events; whether its track and field, graduations, or school concerts. In 2014, Errol was diagnosed with lung cancer. Even with this news, Errol never lost a sense of his tenacious and colorful personality. He remained strong, often showing no signs of sickness or age. Least of all, Errol never lost his ability to make you laugh or tell you what you needed but maybe not wanted, to hear. Whether it be words of encouragement, advice, or his particular style of "tough love," Errol did not let pain or sickness effect who he is or stop him from speaking his mind. And maybe most importantly, Errol continued to touch lives wherever he went. From doctors' offices, work, or simply out in his daily life, Errol was always welcoming, kind, and ready to help anyone he could with whatever he had. Errol is preceded in death by his father Christoper, mother Kathleen, sister Valeria, and cherished aunt Terri. Errol is survived by his wife, Deborah, his daughter, Constance, son, Errol, grandchildren, Domonique, Alexsandra, Danielle, his sister, Ilean (Joan), Princess, and his brother Keith. Additionally, nieces, nephews, are also left behind: Narda, Ryan, Evan, Shade, Dino, Keith (Chris), Sharika, grandnieces and grandnephews, Tuere, Joezane, Kimani, Shade, Drew, Makai, Gabriel, Jayden, Connor, Javon, cherished cousins Althea and Kayden and many other extended family and friends.
