Esmay Parchment

September 1, 1938 — December 24, 2016

Mrs. Esmay Parchment was born as Esmay Angelita Willis to Elizabeth Hawres and Wilfred Benjamin Willis on September 1, 1938, in Portland, Jamaica, West Indies. She arrived in the United States of America to work, and has held jobs from being a home caregiver and hospital worker, to being a bookkeeper, a stockbroker, and even a paraprofessional teacher. She believed in helping others and often did so without hesitation. At one point she was a volunteer worker at St. Michael's Hospital and volunteered in schools as well. Mrs. Parchment is an ordained Evangelist of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World and has been a member of the Emmanuel Church of Christ for over ten years. She was an Associate Minister in the church and held the office of secretary for the Mothers' Board. In addition, she was an active member at Bible Study until her health failed her. Evangelist Parchment was an active member of the People's Organization for Progress. She championed the fight against police brutality and street violence; and stood for justice for the people. Evangelist Esmay Parchment is survived by two daughters, Sharon Parchment and Jacynth Clarke-Chimwala; and a son-in-law, David Chimwala. Her six grandchildren are: Tineka Schenck, Sharif Clarke, Mwansa Clarke-Chipepo, Malcolm Clarke, Sameer Parchment, and Zion Chimwala. Her Great Grandchildren are Kayne Burton, Jaymin Burton, Shyann Clarke, Malaysia Clarke and another great grandchild due in February 2017. She is also survived by five siblings, Dorrell Hendricks, Constantine Willis, Ronald Willis, Allan Willis, and Herman Willis. She has 49 nieces and nephews, and a host of grand nieces and grand nephews. Mrs. Parchment is predeceased by her son, Samuel Parchment and the following siblings: Enez Gowie-Harris, Nathaniel Hendricks, Alphonso Hendricks, Terrence Hendricks, Jacqueline Willis, and Beverly Willis. Her memory will remain with family and friends. She will truly be missed.
