Francisco de Assis Monteiro, 83, of Newark, NJ, passed away at his home on May 10, 2017. He was preceded in death by his mother, Antonia Fernandes, and his two sons, John James and Franciso Monteiro. He is survived by his step sons, Richard and Edward Iglesias, his daughters Leonor Thomas and Theresa Monteiro , his son, Thomas Monteiro and a brother, Francisco de Paula Monteiro. Francisco was born on September 4, 1933 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Frank attended high school for a period in Providence, Rhode Island. After returning to Brazil, he served in the military and studied to be an electrical engineer. Later, he returned to the United States and married Mildred Sylvia. In 1958, he married Miguelina Torres and had three children. In 1986 he married Michelle Barrett and had two children. Francisco had a passion for electronics. He enjoyed learning new things and was famous for saying "You are what you know.". He opened his own TV repair shop, FM Electronics, in Newark and also worked for companies such as Zenith Radio Corporation and Arbitron, as an electronics engineer. Later he opened up Irvington Electronics and worked for the NSA. Frank was also known for working on inventions and enjoyed talking with folks on his ham radio. He was kind, gentle, and friendly with a very "corny" sense of humor. Francisco will be missed by his family including his 7 grandchildren, Crystal Monteiro, Adrianna Monteiro, Amanda Monteiro, Joshua Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Jacob Thomas, and Olivia Thomas. A graveside funeral will take place at Hollywood Memorial Park and Cemetery in Union, NJ on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 11 am.
