Genovevo D. Guillen

Genovevo D. Guillen, 90, of Union, N.J., passed away on August 14, 2024. Visitation will be on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 11 a.m. through 1 p.m. at Union Funeral Home - Lytwyn & Grillo, 1600 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union. A Catholic Prayer Service will be offered at 1 p.m. with burial following at Hollywood Cemetery, 1621 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union. Memories and condolences may be shared at unionfuneralhome.com.

Born in Arequipa, Peru to the late Justo and Gabina Guillen, Genovevo came to the U.S. in 1978 and lived in Kearny, N.J. before settling in Union.

He came from humble beginnings and a simple life and over the years educated himself and learned all about the history and geography of the world and particularly of his own country, Peru.  He worked so many jobs - a builder, a photographer, a ceviche chef.  He wrote songs and played guitar and sang beautifully.  He loved telling stories and jokes.  He was the life of the party, wherever he went.  He had a warm heart and was a bright man.

Predeceased by his daughter, Nelly Monica, and his son Mauricio Jose. He is survived by his wife, Nelly Guillen; daughters, Gloria Guillen and Gaby Douek; his grandchildren Carlos, Marcos and Sofia Silva, and Maurizio and Michael Guillen; and his great-grand daughters Antonella and Ana Guillen.
