On May 1, 2023, George Benham Haubner of West Orange, NJ and Edgartown, Massachusetts, died in Tampa, Florida while visiting his family there. He was attended to by his daughters Dr. Laura Haubner and Julia Haubner Smith, his son-in-law Ronald Salzman and his loving wife Kathleen Young Haubner.
George was an Essex County native, having grown up and lived in Bloomfield where he attended Bloomfield High School. George also lived in Franklin Lakes, NJ for many years. George was a devoted son of Dartmouth from which he graduated. He also acquired a graduate degree from Syracuse. His career was spent in trust and estates of Chase Bank, originally called Manufacturers Hanover in New York City.
The son of Clarence and Zoyla Haubner, he is survived by his wife Kathleen Young Haubner, daughter Dr. Laura Haubner (Ronald Salzman) of Tampa, Florida, Julia Haubner Smith (Peter Smith) of South Orange, NJ and Timothy Benham Haubner of Aspen, Colorado and five grandchildren, Olivia, Michaela, and Andrew Salzman, and Lucy and Zoe Smith.
George’s extended family included many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John Haubner, sister Zoyla Morrow and nephew Dan Boland.
George was above all else a family man known for his generosity of time and spirit. He will be remembered for his love of history and reading, game time with family, skiing in Vermont and gardening at his summer home where he and his wife welcomed countless family and friends.
Visitors will be received on Thursday May 18th from 4-8pm at Levandoski-Grillo Funeral Home, 44 Bay St., Bloomfield. The funeral Mass will be on Friday, May 19th at 10am at St. Joseph’s Church, 44 Benvenue Ave, West Orange followed by a burial at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 712 Grove St., Montclair.
