Gerardo Diza Sr., was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend. Born and raised in the Philippines, he was a self-made man, having supported himself through college, where he got the degree of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He married his beloved wife in 1952 and had 7 children together. He was a disciplinarian, having served in the reserved force of the Philippine Army. He had the rank of Colonel when he retired. He and his wife migrated to the USA in 2008. And even at the age of 83, he intended to work in this country, but never had the chance. He was sworn in as an American Citizen in 2014. He spends a couple of days during the week in WISE Center, and adult day center in Union. He enjoys reading, doing word puzzles, watching TV and tinkering on almost anything. He is also a devoted prayer warrior for his family, much like his wife was. Gerardo was predeceased by his wife Soledad in 2009 and his son Edgar in 2007. He is survived by his children, Gerardo Jr., Grace, Susan, George, Ma. Soledad and Ray, their spouses and his 16 grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on November 14, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Union Funeral Home in Union, NJ. He will be held to rest at Hollywood Memorial Park.
