Halyna Gural

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Friend, and Teacher Halyna Gural, 83, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, November 16, 2016. She was born November 25, 1932 in Ukraine. She was displaced from her childhood home in 1939, and traveled to Germany, where she lived as a refugee for 10 years. She came to the United States in the late 1940s, settling in Philadelphia where she met and married Luke Gural. She earned her college degree in Education from Seton Hall University and began her long career as a 7th grade teacher, specializing in Mathematics, at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic School in Newark, NJ. She lived in Rockaway, NJ for over 35 years, eventually retiring to Atlantic Highlands, NJ to be near her daughter and the ocean. She survived the devastating loss of her eldest daughter, Sophia (Sonia) in 1975. Halyna enjoyed traveling the world in her retirement. She was a collector of art and antiques. She loved to garden and spend long days at the beach with her grandchildren. She touched everyone she met with her beautiful smile and her love of life. She was an inspiration to her countless students, three remaining children and eight beloved grandchildren. She is survived by her loving children, Roman Gural and wife Julie of Colombia, NJ; son Mark Gural, wife Maria, and children Victoria, Catherine, Mark Luke, and Stephen, of Lopatcong, NJ; and her loving daughter Ulana Joslin, husband Anthony, and children, Sophia, Charles, Lilliana and Nathaniel, of Locust, NJ.
