Harry A. Leonard, of Bloomfield, retired Fire Captain-Newark N.J. Fire Department, passed away on February 9, 2011 at the age of 90. Visiting will be at Levandoski Funeral Home 44 Bay Avenue Bloomfield on Friday February 11, hours are 2-4 & 7-9pm. A private cremation will follow. Harry was the beloved husband of the late Ann (Milkiewicz). Father of Daniel R. Leonard (his wife Barbara). Brother of Joan Kabara and the late Joe, Thomas, Bill, Marion, Laura, Bernice and Alice. Grandfather of Allyson and Ba Jing. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. In lieu of flowers donations to Bloomfield Public Library 90 Broad Street Bloomfield NJ 07003 would be preferred. Additional parking is available on Broughton Avenue. Harry served in the U.S. Navy from October 1942 to January 1946. He was an Aviation Ordnance Man with Petty Officer First Class rank, attached to night fighter squadrons 90 and 103, in support of the F-4F Hellcats. He saw combat in the following campaigns in the South Pacific. The Battle of Rennell Island, Makin Atoll, Kwajelein, Marshall Islands, Truk (Caroline Islands), Jaluit Atoll, Emirau Island, Yap, Ulithi, Woleai, Palau, Hollandia New Guinea, Marianas Islands, Saipan, Rota, Guam, Battle of the Phillipine Sea, Volcan and Bonin Islands, Okinawa, Formosa, Phillipines, Leyte, Iwo Jima, Kyushu and Onshu.
