Ilko Sarakun

Ilko Sarakun, 100, passed away at home in Woodbridge on October 2, 2016. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral on Thursday, October 6 at 8:30 AM from the Union Funeral Home-Lytwyn & Lytwyn, 1600 Stuyvesant Ave., Union(unionfuneralhome.com) with the funeral service at 9:30AM at St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 719 Sanford Ave., Newark, NJ and the interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. The visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the Funeral Home. Ilko was the beloved husband of the late Maria, the devoted father of John Sarakun and Helen Keaveney and her husband John. He was the loving grandfather of Sean and his wife Julie Keaveney, Christina Olexa, and Kate Keaveney. He was the dear great grandfather of Sara Olexa and Colin and Drew Keaveney. Born in Poland Mr. Sarakun was a longtime resident of Newark, before moving to Woodbridge. He worked for Prudential in Newark for 21 years before retiring in 1984. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid walker. He was always very proud that he became an American Citizen.
