Irene Holynskyj

Irene Holynskyj, 93, of Livingston, N.J., passed away on January 28, 2025. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 2, 2025 from 5-8 p.m. at Union Funeral Home - Lytwyn & Grillo, 1600 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union, N.J. The Parastas Service will be at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to join the family for a service at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 719 Sanford Avenue, Newark, N.J. on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Andrew Cemetery, South Bound Brook, N.J. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina to the late Nestor and Bohdanna Welyczkowsky, Irene came to the U.S. in 1955 and lived in Bridgeport, CT, Elizabeth, Newark, and Irvington before settling in Livingston. A proud homemaker, Irene was devoted to the care of her family and was active in the Ukrainian community always assisting with many organizations, causes, and charities, particularly with the Children of Chernobyl Relief Fund.

Predeceased by her husband, Osyp Holynskyj, brother Wolodymyr Welyczkowsky, and sister Yaroslava Zerebeckyj, and daughter-in-law Lori Holynskyj. She is the last of her siblings.

She is survived by her children, Nestor Holynskyj and wife Larissa, Christine Chraplyvy and husband Andrew, Andrew Holynskyj, and Oleh and wife Ariadna; grandchildren Mark Chraplyvy, Damian Holynskyj and wife Leigh, Adrian Chraplyvy, Lelia Byrne and husband Justin, and Natalia Chraplyvy, Alexa, Sophia, Markian, and Julian Holynskyj, and great-grandchildren Finbar, Fergus and Cormac Byrne, Anabelle and Charlotte Chraplyvy, and Ava and Ella Holynskyj.
