Jane Edwards (nee: Meehan), 82, of Hillside, N.J., passed away on January 3, 2025, in Cranford, N.J. Born on February 1, 1942, in Newark, N.. Jane, affectionately nicknamed Sissy by her friends and family, was known for her vivacious spirit and love of laughter, always cherishing moments spent with friends and family.
Jane graduated from Hillside High School and had a fulfilling career, first as a typesetter at the Newark Evening News, and later serving the community of Hillside Township. An avid reader, she also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and was fond of watching detective shows, which kept her entertained and sharp.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her loving daughter, Jean, and her husband, Thomas Schroeder, who took on a large role in caring for her in Jane’s later years, and, daughter, Elizabeth Abad; grandchildren, Sarah Higgins, Jennifer Simbulan, and her husband, Jonathan, and Thomas Schroeder, along with his wife, Jenny. Jane was also a great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald Edwards, her daughter, Teresa Hinsch, her parents, Josephine and Tom, and her siblings, Thomas, Jack, and James Meehan, Patricia Katsoudas, and Margaret Meehan.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. at Union Funeral Home - Lytwyn & Grillo, 1600 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union, N.J. A Catholic prayer service will be offered at 3 p.m. Cremation will be private, and the burial of cremated remains will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J., at a later date.
Jane’s life was marked by her warm presence and the joy she brought to those around her. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by the many lives she touched.
