Joan Lorraine Meyer

Joan Lorraine Meyer, 84 of West Orange, entered into eternal life on May 14, 2024, at The Cliffs in West Orange. Born November 25, 1939, in Newark, to the late William & Marie Meyer, she was raised in Union and lived there for most of her life.

She graduated from Union High School and later from Upsala College with a degree in Social Work. She worked briefly in that field before moving to Saginaw, Michigan to work with Girl Guides.

She later attained her master’s in library science from the University of Denver and returned to Union and working at the Springfield Library for many years until she retired as head of technical services.

Joan loved books and reading, the theatre; locally having season tickets at Papermill Playhouse & Shakespeare Theatre. She was a devoted caretaker to her parents until their last days.

She is survived by her sister, Marie Gechtman, niece Bette-Lynn Buglio & her husband, Michael & nephew, William Gechtman.

A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Hollywood Memorial Park, 1500 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ.
