John J. Shatynski Retired Lt. Colonel, chemist and past trustee of Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church, Hillside, NJ John J. Shatynski, 91, of Hillside, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday Jan 27, 2011. Born in Wilmington, DE, John moved to Hillside in the 1920s. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, Jan 31, 2011 at 10 am at Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church, Liberty Ave & Bloy St. in Hillside. Interment to follow at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 pm to 6 pm (Parastas at 5 pm) and on Monday from 9 am to 9:30 am at Union Funeral Home (Lytwyn & Lytwyn) 1600 Stuyvesant Ave, Union. John was the beloved husband of Olga (nee Dobriansky) and devoted father & father-in-law of Michael & Jennie; Daniel William & Pamela; Theodore & Natalie; Patricia; and Joseph & Maria. He was also the adored “Pop-Pop” and “Dido” of Theodore & his wife Kristen; Catherine; Gregory; Matthew; Christine; Rebecca; Lisa; Sarah; Andrew; Paul; Julianna; Ariana and Nicholas. A decorated WWII veteran, John served in the European Theater, Army Air Corp and the US Air Force. He served under Colonel Elliott Roosevelt in the Combat Intelligence unit and retired as a Lt. Colonel. A graduate of Seton Hall Univ & NYU, John was an accomplished chemist and held several patents for aircraft synthetic lubricants. He retired from Stauffer Chemical Corp. John was a founding member, past trustee (for 25 years), and Holy Name Member of Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hillside. Previously, he served on the St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic School Building Committee in Newark and was a member of St. John’s Catholic War Veterans Post #227. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for memorial donations to Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hillside.
