Joseph Laura

On December 23rd, Joseph Laura (March 1941 - December 2013) was called home to be with his heavenly father after a valiant and tremendous fight against cancer. Papi Djo passed away peacefully on Monday 23, December, 2013 at his home in Irvington, NJ with his devoted wife, Sanelia, children, Emmanuel, Fritz, Jean Yves, Marcuse, Islande Laura and Marie Stephen by his side. Joseph was the son of the late Isma Destine and Raphael Laura (Robert). He was born and raised in Port au Prince, Haiti. In 1967 he married Sanelia Richard, they settled and have their children and moved to the United States in1998. He enjoyed celebrating life and loved listening to music. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He is remembered for his kindness, hospitality, generosity, and love of family, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Joseph always has a joke and a story to tell. Joseph is survived by his wife Sanelia, children, Emmanuel, Fritz, Jean Yves, Marcuse, Jean Rodny, Islande Laura, Marie Stephen, and countless of grandchildren, nieces, cousins, and other family members and friends. A viewing will be held at Lytwyn & Lytwyn Funeral Home located at 1600 Stuyvesant Ave Union, NJ US 07083, telephone (908) 964-4222 on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 5PM-9PM. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 9AM (duration of Mass approximately 45 minutes to 1hour) in the Holy Spirit Church located at 17 N Clinton St East Orange, NJ 07017 telephone (973) 673-1077 Interment will follow at the Saint Gertrude Cemetery located at 53 Inman Avenue Colonia, NJ 07067 (located approximately 14 miles from the church). The repast will be followed right after the burial at Loyalty Lodge #33 located at 1912 Morris Ave Union, NJ 07083.
