Kateryna Flak

Kateryna (nee Kis) Flak of Somerset, N.J. entered into eternal rest on Thursday May 4, 2023, at Saint Joseph’s Senior Home & Assisted Living, Woodbridge, N.J. She was 104 years old. She was born in Ukraine on May 3, 1919, to Teodore & Efruzyna (nee Franko) Kis.

She had lived in Newark then Irvington for over 40 years. Kateryna was a retired seamstress. She had belonged to St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Newark, for over 70 years.

She enjoyed embroidering Ukrainian designs and spending time knitting.

Kateryna was the wife of the late Dmytro Flak; mother of Rosalie Holowinsky and Lubomyr Flak & his wife Christine; grandmother of Daniel Flak and Michael Flak & his wife Courtney; great-grandmother of Grayson Flak and Harper Flak.

The visitation will be held at the Union Funeral Home Lytwyn & Grillo Funeral Home on Tuesday May 9th from 9:00 am to 10:30 a.m. The Panikhida (prayer service) will take place during the visitation at 9:30 a.m. Following the visitation, A Funeral Service will be held in Saint John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 719 Sanford Avenue, Newark, N.J. at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, N.J.
