Leona Wiener

Leona Weiner age 89 of New York died on Thursday September 23, at home. Born in Newark New Jersey she has been living in New york city for many years.Leona received her RN from Newark Beth Israel Hospital. As a student nurse she worked in several wartime factories in Elizabeth NJ during vacations and time off.Leona joined the USAR ANC upon graduation she was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict.She served two years at Walter Reed Army Hospital and founded the Army Health Nursing program.On discharge she continued in the 307 General Hospital Reserve Unit as a Educational Coordinator until mandatory retirement at age 60 in 1981. Leona was a head nurse and Instructor in Pediatrics at Newark Beth Israel Hospital and earn her BS an MS at Columbia U in NYC. Her last place of employment as a professor was at Long Island University . Leona is survived by her loving sister Alice Fernandez and many friends and relatives.
