Lillian Susan Lallo of Bayonne, NJ passed away on September 11th, 2020 at the age of 68. After a long battle with cancer, she succumbed to a COVID-19 infection. Known to most as Susan, Lillian Lallo was destined to be a skilled caregiver. The second oldest of five children, she got plenty of experience raising boys by taking care of (and occasionally patching up) her younger brothers. On November 11th, 1972 she married her first and only husband, Vincent Lallo. In 1976 she had her first son Michael. He would be followed by two more boys, Anthony and Joseph. In a rich and fulfilling life, Susan’s greatest achievements came as a mother and homemaker. She may be the gold standard of stay-at-home moms: she cooked meals, cleaned clothes, and kept three rowdy boys from tearing each other to pieces. But she was more than a mom to her own children. She was a mom to the entire community. The doors of the Lallo household were always open. Food was always on the table. Everyone from neighborhood kids to the mechanics down the block called her Mom Lallo. She provided room and board for friends who had fallen on hard times. She bandaged up kids who couldn’t or wouldn’t go to the doctor. She cooked the legendary meals and treats that made many a party and holiday special. Her sense of humor, her creativity, and her compassion were without limit. Outside of the home, Susan was active in the PTA while her children were in school. She was a poll worker on election days. In her spare time, she was a voracious reader and a hobbyist writer. Though the later years of her life were plagued by cancer and related illnesses, her grandchildren filled her life with joy and purpose until the very end. Susan Lallo is remembered fondly by all who knew her. The world was that much brighter for having had her, and shall be that much darker for having lost her. She is survived by her husband Vincent Lallo (of Bayonne, NJ); three sons, Michael and wife Georgette (of Colonia, NJ), Anthony and Wife Cheryl (of Danbury, CT), and Joseph (of Colonia, NJ); three grandchildren, Vincent, Ryan, and Owen; one sister, Karen Weber; three brothers Robert, Keven, and John Cleary. Memorial service will be held at a later date and time. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her name to your local animal shelter or homeless shelter.
