Lois Chismar, 78 of Keyport, entered into eternal life on September 13, 2024 at her home. Born in Bayonne, on July 25, 1946 to the late Louis Amato & Mildred (nee: Calcaterra) she lived most of her life in Jersey City before moving to Keyport 3 years ago. She was a retired NJMVC employee having worked in the Driver Testing department for many years. She was also a driver education teacher at St. Dominic’s Academy in Jersey City and active supporter of the A. Harry Moore School in Jersey City.
Lois enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved to host her family for dinner and especially Sunday Dinners, Christmas Eve with all the Italian traditions & hosting St. Patrick’s Day parties. A devout catholic she was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish and as a devotee of the Blessed Mother, was a member of the Holy Rosary Rosarians, both churches in Jersey City.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Martin Chismar in 2018, her siblings; Patrick Amato & Edith Schiller.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children; Juliann, Martin & Melissa Chismar, her twin brother Louis Amato & his wife Carol, sister in law Frances Amato & numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 18th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Union Funeral Home, 1600 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend the funeral mass on Thursday, September 19th at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 344 Sixth St., Jersey City, NJ.

Burial will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.
