Lubomyr Kurylko

Dr. Lubomyr Kurylko passed away on August 24th, 2010 leaving behind his loving wife Daria of 53 years, daughters Natalie Olds with husband David, and Catherine Kanarsky with husband Thomas, son Andrew and wife Lyudmyla, seven grandchildren, Zachary and his wife Meghan, Nicholas, Miranda, Roman, Stephan, Adrian and Valentyn, brothers Bohdan with his wife Lily, and John and many other relatives in the United States and Ukraine Lubomyr was born on March 2, 1932 in Lviv, Ukraine. He came to the United States in 1949. He graduated from Syracuse University with his Bachelors and Masters of Science in Chemical Engineering, followed by a Masters of Science in Aerospace and Mechanical Sciences from Princeton University, and a Doctorate in Fuel Science from the Department of Materials Sciences at Pennsylvania State University. He holds several patents and was a registered Professional Engineer. After a career as an Associate Professor at Steven's Institute of Technology, Lubomyr founded an engineering consulting firm specializing in the fields of heat and power generation, energy utilization and conservation, and environmental engineering. He also founded and was President of Nittany Industries, Inc. a paper conversion manufacturer until his retirement several years ago. As a youth and into adulthood Lubomyr was active in Plast, the Ukrainian Scouting Organization where he was a member of the Burlaky fraternity. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, hiking, fishing and skiing. One of his fondest memories was his participation in the Ukrainian Peace Walk in 1990 where he made numerous friends. Throughout his life and more so in retirement, Lubomyr was active in numerous charitable causes including most recently the publication of the Ukrainian-English Version of Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary 30th edition. Lubomyr Kurylko served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1964. Memorial donations may be made to The Ukrainian Museum (222 East 6th Street, New York, NY 10003), or to the Ukrainian National Women's League of America, Inc. Scholarship Program (UNWLA, Inc. Scholarship Program, P.O. Box 24, Matawan, NJ 07747-0024).
