Maria Sofia Pawlyshyn

Maria Sofia Pawlyshyn (nèe Olesnicky), 77, of Montville, N.J., passed away on February 1, 2025.  A Funeral Service will be offered on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 1 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 733 Sanford Avenue, Newark, N.J.  Cremation will be private.  Arrangements are under the direction of Union Funeral Home - Lytwyn & Grillo, 1600 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union, N.J.  Memories and condolences may be shared at unionfuneralhome.com.

She is survived by her loving brother Mark Olesnicky, two daughters, Sofia Skulsky and Olenka Hamilton, and three grandchildren Alisa, Vera and Sasha.

She was born in Austria on December 4th, 1947 while her family was migrating from Ukraine to the United States; she came to New Jersey at age 2. She suffered from lifelong complications of meningitis which she contracted in her late preschool years. In her adult life, she worked as a medical assistant for her father’s and brother’s medical offices. She married Roman Pawlyshyn in 1983 and remained married until his death in October 2022. She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Church.
