Maria Yurkewych

Maria Yurkewych, 101 of East Hanover, entered into eternal rest on February 11, 2025, at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston. Born December 5, 1923, in Sambir, Ukraine, she emigrated from Ukraine in 1951, living in Irvington/Newark, then Maplewood and eventually settling in East Hanover 20 years ago. She was a retired histologist for Orange Memorial Hospital for many years. 

Mrs. Yurkewych was a proud member of the UNA Women’s Association and a devout parishioner of St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church of Whippany and Newark. She proudly volunteered at both church’s when required. 

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter (1985) & son, Marco.

She is the beloved mother of George Yurkewych and Roma Murphy & her husband, James.

A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 60 N. Jefferson Road, Whippany, NJ 07981. Burial will follow at St. Andrew’s UO Cemetery, South Bound Brook.
