In loving memory of Marie Rose Benjamin, longtime resident of Essex and Union County, New Jersey. She is also known as: Nerianie, Ninboy, Madame Catul, Mammam, Mammie, Grann, Marainn, and Matante. Marie Rose Benjamin passed away on August 25, 2023 at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ at the age of 96. Devoted wife of Catul Benjamin (predeceased) and loving mother of Urta, Nurielle (Ninie, predeceased), Dixon (Dix, predeceased), Ernst (predeceased), Joëlle, Maxime, Ronny (predeceased), Gladys (Gueguette), Joedy (Gogo), and Gerda (Dadoue). Stepmother to Wesner Benjamin (predeceased) and Jean Elie Menard. Loving grandmother of Sandy Urta, Tarah Lynn, Kassey Joedy, Alain Vaughn, Meggan Tyler, Tory Lamarre, Kiera (Kiki), Kyle Lamartine, Zoe Layla Rose, Kelsia Gladys (Lily), Zyon Katul, and Zayleeh Joeska. Adored great-grandmother of Aryana Sarai and Kasai Joedy. Cherished Grann to Wesny, Winsky, Nathanaelle, Michaëlle, Wadner,Wadnise Benjamin and their children.
Nerianie Valerus was born in Thomonde, Haiti. She was the daughter of Israel Valerus and Neralise Lafalaise (predeceased). Dear sister of Vertulia, Donaise, Edane, Necule, Idamène, Michelene, Monique Valerus (predeceased), Willer Valerus and Ilanise St Louis. Aunt to countless nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Numerous God children, son/daughter/granddaughter in-law, and friends who became family. Mammam will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Madame Catul was a kind, caring, and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a virtuous woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Marainn was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Growing up, Mammam was always there for us, whether we needed a solution to our problems, a warm delicious meal, getting to school safely, or simply a comforting shoulder to cry on. She was a woman of strong faith and she instilled in us the importance of family, determination and education; ultimately doing what is right. Mammam was a true role model who we will always look up to.
Family and friends are welcome to visit on Friday, September 29 from 4:00pm-8:00pm in Union Funeral Home-Lytwyn & Grillo,1600 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ 07083.
Funeral Service (mass included) will be on Saturday, September 30 at 9:30am held at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 1212 Kelly St., Union, NJ 07083.
Entombment will follow in Hollywood Memorial Park & Cemetery, 1621 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ 07083. (Cemetery across the street from the funeral home)
