Marjorie H. Smith

September 29, 1932 — July 21, 2024

Marjorie H. Smith was born September 29, 1932, and died peacefully Sunday morning, July 21, 2024 at Promedica Skilled Nursing Facility in Mountainside, N.J.  Visitation will be on Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 9-10 a.m. at Union Funeral Home – Lytwyn & Grillo, 1600 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union, N.J.  A Funeral Service will be offered at 10 a.m. with interment at Rosehill Cemetery, Linden, N.J.  Memories and condolences may be shared at unionfuneralhome.com.

Marjorie was born in Brooklyn, NY, number six of seven children to Wilfred and Marjorie Smith.  Marjorie attended high school in Brooklyn, she later went on to become a loving homemaker to 3 children of her own.  She was predeceased by her eldest son, Russell, and her grandson, Devin.  Marjorie is survived by her 2 younger children, Donald and Dorothy, along with 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Marjorie was also known as “Weenie” by her friends and “Nana” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was loved and respected by both.  Marjorie was best known for her caring and loving demeanor, always willing to give her last to anyone, and had an open door for those in need.  She was also like a Mom to many others, making the things in day-to-day life not seem so difficult.  She had a huge heart; one truly made of gold.  She showed her love in many ways - she was a gentle friend no matter what kind of experience you went through.  She accepted everyone for who they were and she gave unconditional love.

As we reminisce over our time with “Nana,” we realize that we were blessed to have known her.  We mostly remember her as being humble and patient.  She was our angel here on earth, and we believe that she will be an angel in heaven.  She loved her family and friends immensely.  In her lifetime, she has given what money could never measure up to - she gave unlimited, infinite love.  With her unselfish acts, she looked for the good in everyone.  She was blessed to see 91 years and she continued to receive the love and respect from those around her.  She was able to take a comfortable seat on earth, continually displaying her love and kindness as normal.

Marjorie was a happy woman!  She was a simple woman!  She was satisfied with the simple things in life.  She continuously supported the village of family and friends around her without a second thought.  She was small in stature, but a giant in personality with a feistiness to match; extremely honest, straight forward and transparent.  Everyone that came into Marjorie’s home was always accepted with her open arms, warm heart, and rich spirit.  When God made Marjorie, he knew exactly what he was doing, he designed her to be exactly what she was and who she turned out to be.  She meant so many things to so many people and will be missed dearly.
