Born in Rudno, Ukraine on November 16, 1908, Mr. Kowal completed his studies and became a teacher and choir director in his native land. He left Ukraine with his family during the Second World War, moving first to Austria, then to Argentina and eventually immigrated to the United States in 1956, settling in Elizabeth, NJ. He worked in several factories and after retirement as an accountant for the Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union in Elizabeth until he was 85. Mr. Kowal loved spending time with his extended family and enjoyed vacationing with them. He sang in many choirs throughout his long life, and enjoyed organizing concerts and recitals. He was also a passionate gardener and an avid fisherman. Mr. Kowal died peacefully in his sleep at home, with his loving wife Olga by his side. They were married for 69 year. His daughter Aurelia and son George, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and extensive bereaved family survive him.
