Olga Shatynski (nee Dobriansky), 92, of Fanwood, NJ (formerly of Hillside, NJ) peacefully passed away at her daughter’s home on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church, Liberty Avenue and Bloy Street in Hillside, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia, NJ. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 21 from 5 to 8 PM. (Parastas at 7 PM) and on Friday, April 22 from 9 to 9:30 AM at the Union Funeral Home (Lytwyn & Grillo), 1600 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ. Born to Kasian and Rose (nee Luciw) Dobriansky in New York City, Olga was part of the still vibrant Ukrainian Community of the East Village, centered around St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church where she was baptized and where she married the love of her life, John (+ 2011). After their marriage, Olga and John settled in NJ and for most of their married life lived in Hillside where they were founding members of Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church and raised their family. Olga was an active member of Immaculate Conception as a founding and life-long member of the Altar Rosary Society. For many years she organized the May Procession in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the visitation of St. Nicholas to the parish children each December. Through her example, Olga always instilled and inspired in her children her love for the Ukrainian Catholic Church and the American and Ukrainian Nations, whether it was organizing for the blessing of a new Ukrainian flag for the parish, spearheading the erection of a memorial in remembrance of a forgotten Ukrainian Catholic pioneering priest and former Ukrainian National Association (UNA) Supreme Secretary, Rev. Nestor Dmytriw, in Hillside’s Evergreen Cemetery or being a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. Olga leaves behind her dear sister Mary (Myron Moskowitz) and beloved children: Michael (Jennie), Daniel (Debra), William (Pamela), Theodore (Natalie), Patricia, and Joseph (Maria); grandchildren: Theodore (Kristen), Catherine (John Plunkett), Gregory, Matthew, Christine (Gregory Zabel), Rebecca (Robert DeSantis), Sister Lisa Marie of the Franciscan Sisters T.O.R., Sarah, Andrew, Paul, Julianna, Ariana and Nicholas; and great grandchildren: Lily and Emma Plunkett and Cameron Zabel. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations in Olga’s memory to Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hillside c/o Rev. Vasyl Vladyka 719 Roosevelt Ave, Carteret NJ 07008, or for Humanitarian Aid to Victims of War in Ukraine c/o the United Ukrainian American Relief Organization (UUARC) 1206 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111 (electronically at uuarc.org).
