Paul Thomas Maceluch, of Cedar Knolls, passed away comfortably and peacefully on Sunday morning, January 5. He was surrounded by love, humor, and memories of a life well lived.
Paul was born to Theodore and Evelyn Maceluch on December 8, 1946, in Newark, NJ, where they lived. Six years later, their family was joined by Paul’s sister Noel Ann, and in 1962 they moved to Irvington, NJ. Paul resided at his family’s house for the next 60 years, moving to Cedar Knolls in 2022.
Paul graduated from Irvington High School in 1965. Shortly thereafter he began working as an installer at Western Electric, which later became AT&T, Lucent, Alcatel, and Nokia. Paul faithfully and cheerfully completed this work until his retirement in 2010.
In 1966 he enlisted in the United States Army and then the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1972. While in the Army, Paul was stationed in Korea, where he served at Camp Casey.
Paul had a wide breadth of interests that he passionately pursued and shared with others. He was a keen photographer and took thousands of photos of his journeys across the United States and the world. He was an avid gardener, and took immense pride in his flower and vegetable gardens. As a young man, he fell in love with stories of adventure, animation, and science fiction, and explored these strange new worlds nearby and in galaxies far, far away for the rest of his life. He was always fascinated by computers and technology, from the earliest computers and video games to more recent cell phones and the internet. He deeply enjoyed food; from visiting great restaurants and bakeries near and far, to organizing cookbook swaps with foodies across the nation, Paul was always interested in a good meal and the connections
that they created.
Paul is survived by his nephew, Warren Wannamaker; he is also survived by his niece, Virginia Daku, her husband, Brian, and their daughter, Nicole.
He is predeceased by his parents and sister.
