Rachel L. Evans

Mrs. Rachel Lucille Evans, age 74, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Rachel was born on October 6, 1943 in Hollister, North Carolina to the late Joshua Lee and Mary (Richardson) Davis. Rachel moved to New Jersey in 1960 where she attended Berkley School of Business studying Stenography. She then married her loving husband Roger on July 21, 1962 and to this union 5 children were born. They moved to Maplewood, New Jersey in 1980 where she resided until her passing. Being raised with strong family values and morals, Rachel dedicated her life to her family. She worked at RCA Electronics and later transitioned to New Jersey Bell (Verizon), retiring after 28 years of service. She also became a self-taught real estate investor for 38 years while working full time. Rachel leaves to cherish sweet memories: devoted husband of 55 years, Roger L. Evans, 3 sons, Dexter (Renay), Shelby (Nuriye) and Victor (Tracie) Evans; 2 daughters, Veronica Evans and Jennifer (Koran) Taylor; 6 grandchildren, Assia and Elassia Mayo, Elijah and Gabriel Evans, Layla and Bryce Taylor; 4 brothers, Joshua Lee Jr. (Hester) Davis, Dennis (Donna) Davis, Julius Davis, Melvin Sr. (Cynthia) Davis; 5 sisters, Yolanda Kennon, Bessie Rice, Kathleen Davis, Velma (Charlie) Mills, and Hazel (Jimmie) Silver; 1 aunt, Mary Beatrice Shearin; 1 sister-in-law, Cora Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Donald, Charles and Ronald Ray Davis; mother and father-in-law, Elijah and Ada (Wright) Evans; 2 sister-in-laws, Marie and Betty Davis; 2 brother-in-laws, Leonard Kennon and Fletcher Rice.
