Raymond Joseph Simon

March 20, 1924 — December 3, 2012

Mr. Raymond J. Simon of Bloomfield passed away on December 3, 2012 at the age of 88. Raymond was a three war veteran. Raymond served in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1942 to 1952. He saw combat with the 4th Marine Division against the Japanese on the Marshall Islands, Saipan and Taiwan Invasions. He served with the 2nd Marine Division during the Korean War. In 1956 he joined the U.S. Air Force serving for 15 years which included the Vietnam War. He ended his military career at the Pentagon with the Defense Intelligence Agency in 1973 as Staff Sergeant. After his military career ended he, worked for Hoffman LaRoche in Nutley as a Security Officer from 1973 and retired in 1984 as a Sergeant. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 448 of Bloomfield. He leaves a sister Eleanor Porter of Virginia and a brother Robert of Florida. He is also survived by his 1st cousin Gloria T. Harvey, his very special God Daughter Lesley Ann Scheibner many other dear cousins and friends George, Frank and Chuck. Visiting hours are 2 to 5pm on Thursday December 6 at Levandoski Funeral Home 44 Bay Avenue Bloomfield (visit www.levandoskifuneralhome for directions and on line condolences). The funeral will begin at 9am at the funeral home on Friday morning. His funeral mass will be in Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield at 10am. Interment will follow at Clover Leaf Memorial Park in Woodbridge. In lieu of flowers, donations to www.woundedwarriorproject.org would be preferred.
