Richard James Oliver, known for his wonderful smile and great sense of humor, passed away on May 12 at the age of 94. Richard was the son of Mary Mullin and Joseph Oliver of Newark, NJ and brother of Joseph David Oliver. He leaves behind nieces and nephews, Joseph Oliver and Kevin Oliver and Nancy Szwast, as well as grand nieces and nephews Joseph Raymond, Abigail, Amy, Madeline, and Alexandra Oliver. Richard graduated in 1944 from Westside High School, where he was starred in track and field and was interested in Business. He served in the US Army, was honorably discharged, then worked for PSEG until his retirement in 1990. He was a life long resident of Newark and Irvington until 2014 when he moved to Morris Hall in Lawrenceville NJ to be closer to family members. Richard was an avid sports fan of golf, football and baseball, especially the NY Yankees. He loved animals and had pets thru out his life, including his dog Chris. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the ASPCA. Funeral arrangements will he handled by the Union Funeral Home with a small family viewing, then he will be laid to rest at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, NJ.
