Richard T. Hughes Vietnam War Navy vet, 56 of Middletown died on Wednesday, April 18, in St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, Richard lived most of his life in Irvington until moving to Middletown five years ago. He was the head custodian and boiler operator for the Berkley Terrace School in Irvington for 10 years. Earlier, he was a cab driver for Red Top Cab of Irvington. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Richard is survived by his brothers, Robert and Joseph Hagen and his wife, Linda, and five nieces and one nephew. He was also the brother of the late Harry Hughes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center at Monmouth Medical Center.
