Rogelio Gonzaga

Rogelio “Roger” Gonzaga, 82, of Irvington Township, N.J. entered into eternal life on Thursday July 13, 2023, at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

The third born out of a brood of eight children, to the late Concepcion and Jose Gonzaga. Raised in Talisay, Batangas.

Roger graduated from Arellano University, with a degree in elementary education in his heart,

He always wanted to serve and become a soldier. After a while, he enlisted in the Philippine military, achieving the rank of Lieutenant from an NCO, and acting as the supply officer for the Southern Luzon command.

He met the love of his life Veronica, and got married in 1979, and immigrated to the United States in the early 80’s, calling the city of Newark his home for a few years and finally settling in Irvington Township.

He was employed as security officer at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, achieving the rank of Sergeant and serving the hospital for almost 35 years, prior to his retirement.

In Roger’s free time he enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was fishing, sessions at the pistol range, road trips, grilling on the barbeque or simply hanging out, he was happy to be with his family.

Roger is survived by his wife of over 44 years, Veronica; his son Ryann William, his sisters Lucy and Norma, surviving brothers Ross, Ruben, Bernardo, and Alex, along with many extended relatives and friends.

He will truly be missed by everyone.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Union Funeral Home - Lytwyn & Grillo, 1600 Stuyvesant Avenue Union, NJ 07083.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, 954 Stuyvesant Avenue, Irvington, NJ 07111. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
