RUSSELL KEITH LAYTON Sr.Vietnam Veteran, Retired Bloomfield Employee, 64 Russell Keith Layton, Sr. died suddenly on Monday, June 4, 2012 at his second home in the Poconos, Pennsylvania. Mr. Layton is survived by his wife, Pamela, and three sons: Russell Layton, Joseph Layton, and Taylor Tallscott. He also leaves behind ex-wife and friend Mary Beth Layton (nee Mergelsberg), daughter-in-law Lee Ann Layton and two grandchildren, Owen and Grace Layton, a sister, Constance Bradley, brother Stephen Layton, and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Layton was a resident of Bloomfield, NJ. He was a long time employee of the Township of Bloomfield working in Community Development and Inspections. After retiring from the town, he began a second career as a Marine Superintendent at Ports America in Newark. Mr. Layton was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War having been an Aircraft Maintenance Crewman in the U.S. Army and was recognized as Historian of the 128th AHC Tomahawk division. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, June 16, at 11:30 AM at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 23 Cottage Place, Bloomfield, NJ, 973-748-8384. Memorial contributions may be sent to the donor's charity of choice.
