Susanne Palumbo

Susanne Palumbo (nee: Panik) of Hillside, NJ, passed away on December 25, 2023, peacefully at home at the age of 105, with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence Palumbo, Sr. (2006). Susanne is survived by her sons Lawrence, Jr. (wife Jane), of Bloomfield, NJ and John (wife Lorraine) of DelRay Beach, Fl. She is grandmother of Lawrence, III (wife Jacqueline) and Jessica Susanne Rose (husband Adam), and great-grandmother to Claire and James Palumbo and Olivia and Louis Rose.

Susanne emigrated from Czechoslovakia to America in 1929 joining her parents John & Susie Panik, who was a 1921 Ellis Island Immigrant. Persevering through the Great Depression and WWII, she married, raised two sons, and worked outside the home. She was the glue, storyteller, caregiver, and moral compass of the family. Susanne sent packages and money to family relatives in Slovakia throughout the decades and continued her generosity to this day. Her love, deep religious beliefs, and kind heart will be missed by all who knew her. She was the best mother anyone could ever ask for.

We extend a special thank you and appreciation to Nadiya, who was Susanne’s friend and caregiver for many years. We thank her physician, Dr. Michael Zaboski and his team, along with the Center for Hope Hospice for their care.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Union Funeral Home – Lytwyn & Grillo, 1600 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ.  A Lutheran Prayer Service will take place at 3:30 p.m.  A repast will follow the visitation at Mario’s Tutto Bene, 495 Chestnut St., Union, NJ. Burial will be held privately at Linden Hill Cemetery, Queens, NY.
