Taissa Bohdansky

Taissa Bohdansky, 95 of San Diego, CA formerly of Newark, entered into eternal life on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at her home.

Born in Lviv, Ukraine on April 11, 1927, she lived in Newark most of her life before relocating to California.  She was a graduate of the Ukrainian Music Institute in Lviv (class of Roman Sawycky), a graduate of the Vienna Conservatory (class of Roland Raupenstrauch), Co-founder of the Ukrainian Music Institute (UМІ) Newark, NJ Branch and long-time head of UMI in the USA.

Member of NJ & NY Music Educators Association, League of Ukrainian Women of the USA (Branch 25),

Well-known community activist, the soul of the Newark Ukrainian-American community, who for over 50 years organized 400 events, concerts, choirs, and children’s musicals at the school and church of St. John the Baptist in Newark, NJ

She is preceded in death by her husband, Peter Bohdansky and brother Mykola Holinaty.

She is survived by: Sister Marika Holinata, Sister-In-Law Marion Holinata, Nephews Francis Holinaty (Sherri),

Stephen Holinaty and Alexander Holinaty, Grandnephews/nieces Elexander, Cole (Nuria), Matthew (Adriana), Gabriella and Mykala.

FAMILIES DZEROWYCH, KYSILEWSKYJ, PRONCZAK, TKACZ, ZARYCKYJ, ZORIVCHAK AND EXTENDED FAMILY IN AMERICA, CANADA, AUSTRIA, GERMANY AND UKRAINE.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.   Parastas at 5:45 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 733 Sanford Avenue, Newark.   Burial to follow at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, South Bound Brook, NJ.
